Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) is a safe, effective, and minimally invasive treatment for certain types of liver cancer. It uses heat to destroy cancer cells.
During the procedure, a thin needle-like probe is guided into the tumor using imaging techniques like ultrasound or CT scan. Once positioned, high-frequency energy is delivered through the probe, heating and destroying the cancerous tissue. The procedure usually takes under an hour and is often done under local anesthesia with sedation.
RFA is most effective for small tumors (usually less than 3–5 cm in size) and can be repeated if needed. It causes least damage to surrounding liver tissue and thus has a shorter recovery time.
Patients typically go home after an overnight stay. Follow-up scans help monitor treatment success.
